CALLING ON DECISION-MAKERS

CALLING ON DECISION-MAKERS:

HOLISTIC HEALTH – FINALLY JOINING FORCES, HEARING ALL THE VOICES AND PROVIDING ACCESS TO KNOWLEDGE FOR ALL!

Intent of this document:

The current way we are dealing with health is unfit for a world that’s growing together and becoming more inter-dependent. It contributes to dividing our societies. COVID 19 showed this dramatically! It split societies into two tribes (and a middle ground): Those who are fearful of the virus and those who are upset about the lock-down.

We have two unconnected approaches to health and medicine: One that we experience publicly and one that’s happening outside the public realm.

The division coincides with the two-class health systems in many countries, whereby private health insurances are often reserved for the rich. To these two camps you can add access to more knowledge (private) versus not knowing (public) about many more health options.

The most exciting and promising healing successes are happening outside the public realm and outside governmental reach. Many scientific breakthroughs have paved the way for those successes.

I want to broaden the view on health. I’ll illustrate why merging both unconnected realms would dramatically increase options for health generally and in times of crisis. It would reduce expenses and provide power to people, so they can take more control over their own health.

Background:

For more than 20 years, I have had a passion for studying the connections between health, wellbeing, human consciousness, the power of the mind and medicine.

COVID-19 reflects clearly how governments are following a limited health approach.

The appearance of a virus was assessed as a crisis. All over the world, governments suspended civil rights for an indefinite period of time.

The results of the economic down-turn and the effects the drastic measures have on people’s physical and mental health cannot be measured yet.

Politicians and the media allow one narrative only. Scientists, doctors and professors questioning the narrative get publicly defamed or otherwise muzzled – a loss of freedom of expression.

Governments’ decisions were likely driven by panic and fear of taking the wrong steps. The fear in turn is likely a result of governments’ limited perspective on health. Consequently, across the Western world, drastic measures were imposed on all as a one size fits all solution.

My wish is for the EU and for governments to be open to more perspectives on health and healing so that we can live healthier lives and co-create healthier and happier societies.

If you agree that we need societies where people get heard, you’ll accept that this applies to scientists, too.

Are we willing to listen to different perspectives and even to dissenting views? Are we willing to have people present their expertise, so that everyone can take their own decisions?

Medicine as we experience it in the public realm

Behind this broad range of medical treatments you find the Newtonian concept: The body works like a machine. When it’s sick, we’ll fix it.

Research in various separate branches is based on the analysis of diseases and on fighting them: What medication can be used or further developed? What technical devices, artificial limbs, micro chips, use of nano-medicine etc. can replace body parts or (re-)activate bodily functions?

The public character of this realm of medicine expresses itself in various ways:

  • Medicinal products, technical inventions etc. get patented to preserve the rights of the originator.
  • Health insurance usually reimburses patients’ expenses in those branches of medicine.
  • Governments and global organisations finance research done in these areas, notably studies directed by the pharmaceutical industry.
  • The latter in turn has strong lobbyists. Their scientists are being heard by governments, in parliamentary hearings and in the media.
  • Media heavily depend on income by pharma ads. Now, with the global internet competing with traditional media outlets, they do so more than ever.
  • Pharmaceutical industries are constantly growing and expanding. They make up a major part of general industrial revenues. Read e.g here.

With that growth, you would expect then that the level of health in our societies would get better, too. People would be healthier, need less support and health care expenses would drop.

This is not the case. National health care expenses keep going up as well. See here.

We are so used to taking medication and to believing that the older we get, the more medication

we need, that we think it’s “normal“! But is it? Permanent medication is accompanied by side

effects which make you even more vulnerable, e.g. to viruses such as COVID-19. Is this really an

expression of a healthy society?

(This article gives an impression on Europe’s approach to illness.)

Public realm medicine is poorly equipped to help with chronic diseases. In fact, above-mentioned rising numbers, the multitude of “disease management programmes“ and the belief that medication is the sole solution, keeps chronically ill people sick and on medication for the rest of their lives.

This does not sound like success.

The real power of this kind of medicine is: It shows amazing results whenever immediate help is needed in all kinds of emergencies, accidents, catastrophes etc.

Medicine happening in large part in the private realm

In this “private realm medicine“, too, you find a broad range of practices and treatments.

Much knowledge comes from more recent scientific findings.

Other knowledge arises from combining new and older sciences or linking sciences that had hitherto been pursued separately (e.g. physics, quantum physics, neurosciences, biology). You also find insights from sciences joining with ancient wisdom.

This concept sees the human being as a part of nature, interconnected with his or her environment. Let’s call it the quantum concept. It also takes account of the impact the observer has on the observed.

Questions here are:

What can be learned from people who are generally healthy? From people who experience healing when public realm medicine has given up on them? From spontaneous remissions? (Salutogenesis rather than pathogenesis.)

What can people do to get their body and mind back in balance again when they fall ill?

The human’s brain, heart and gut have their own memories and electromagnetic fields. They interact energetically with one another inside the body, as well as with the outside world. Learning how to consciously create coherence between them and learning how to use your inner power, means starting to take control over your health.

In this realm you find names such as Integrative Medicine, Energy Medicine, holistic medicine etc.

Advice goes far beyond healthy lifestyles with good nutrition, exercise and so on.

Behind this is a large number of sciences, many of which have questioned our former beliefs. A few examples are:

The human genome project (and epigenetics):

Results show that we are not slaves to our genes! We can change our genetic destiny:

While our DNA code remains the same, the thousands of combinations, sequences and patterned variations in a single gene do change. It is lifestyle and consciousness that determine whether specific genes get activated or not.

This means that it is possible that humans can end their “genetic family diseases“ – if they learn how to.

The human microbiome project:

Many physical and mental illnesses derive from and are expressed in the gut flora. It is in particular our gut that hosts an amazing population of bacteria, viruses and other micro organisms. And it is so diversified that just like an individual finger print, everyone has their own “gut print.“

Many natural therapies start with targeting the gut for the body and mind to heal. (This area has been picked up by pharma, too). Read here.

Psycho-Neuroimmunology

These sciences explore the effects of thoughts and emotions on our immune system.

Thoughts and emotions come with different measurable frequencies. Depending on their frequency, they release specific chemicals inside the body. It has been shown that high frequency emotions (love, joy, gratitude etc.) sustained over a short period of time, increase the body’s and the immune systems’s resilience to a considerable, measurable extent.

Low frequency emotions (fear, panic, anger, worry, overwhelm etc.) conversely swamp the body with chemicals conducive to illnesses.

We commonly say for instance that someone is “bitter.“ Upholding this feeling, you literally develop over-acidification. It can start with acid reflux, perhaps lead to gout, and when the body’s defences gradually break down, more serious illnesses such as cancer might occur.

Emotions tend to become habitual. There are constant complainers, constant worriers, but also people who are happy most of the time. Getting used to your habitual way of feeling, you don’t even realise you may be prone to illness. You think it’s the way you are; it’s your personality!

Many people are currently experiencing emotional stresses such as anxiety or panic. COVID-19 has been ongoing for months.

We will undoubtedly see a large increase in all sorts of illnesses, both physical and mental, due to high fear and anxiety levels sustained over a long period of time. Many might turn to medication, suffer all kinds of side effects, and so the cycle goes on.

As an illustration read an article on anxiety disorder here.

This article illustrates the inner bodily chain reactions to fear. It explains how a feeling can translate into physical illness.

Apart from emotional ones, above mechanisms are true for other forms of stresses, too, such as physical stress (accidents, injuries, trauma) or chemical stress (radiation, pesticides, toxins, etc.).

Most chronic diseases are caused by all forms of stresses.

Healing in this private realm starts with questioning personal beliefs, attitudes and life styles to then learn how to consciously change them. Hence with your mind it is possible for you to change the chemistry and frequencies of your body and so pave your way to healing.

Compared to taking a pill, this requires some time and practice. However, you overcome your chronic disease rather than get used to living with it on medication. Read here

Placebo research:

This research again shows how powerful our mind is. Your expectation of being helped by a medication or a doctor sets in motion a cascade of physical reactions that feed back to the brain. This makes you feel better, which in turn leads to healing. Read here.

In his book “You are the Placebo“ (2014, p.39), Dr. Joe Dispenza illustrates how our body can create on its own exactly the chemical it needs for a specific healing. This was shown again and again in placebo studies when people were given mere sugar pills, believing they took some promising medication.

As our bodies can create the very chemicals that we need for healing, it means that we can learn to do so at will and without the medication.

Nocebo research:

Read for instance how a doctor’s attitude towards you and your illness influences the course of your disease.

Find some real-life examples here. People being told about possible side effects, are prone to developing them.

Such suggestive research results apply to us in general. They are not restricted to patients.

Translate those findings to our current situation: For months we have been bombarded with a narrative of a dangerous virus that causes severe breathing effects. People susceptible to this story get primed (as psychology calls is) and can actually develop exactly the symptoms they keep hearing about. Their immune defence drops and becomes vulnerable to outside influences.

All sorts of other Neurosciences:

Neuroplasticity shows how mental practices physically change the brain. You literally become a new – a healthy – person. Read here.

Neurobiology studies the nervous system and brain functions. It flows into many therapies for mental and physical healing.

The list goes on.

The private character of such approaches expresses itself in various ways:

  • Natural medicine and healing therapies cannot get patented.
  • Natural medicine and non-traditional healing modalities are not reimbursed by health insurances.
  • Medical doctors offering services in this realm are doing so on a “private patient“ basis (in countries where this difference exists).
  • People from the private sector (health practitioners, health journalists, scientists etc.) „translate“ scientific findings into understandable knowledge for everyone. They write books or teach. Some of them bring hundreds of people together to learn and practice how to achieve healing or stay healthy. This is happening all over the world.
  • Private study institutions such as the Quantum University or Udemy provide learning and teachings by leading advocates of these branches of medicine.
  • Organisations like the HeartMath Institute provide trainings on how to self-regulate so you can achieve greater heart-brain coherence and health. They use latest technology, e.g. as bio-feedback tools. From individual inner coherence to global coherence? What’s behind that? And what does it help us with? Watch their latest short video!
  • Linked with this is the fascinating Global Consciousness Project. It was initiated by Princeton University. This article describes how people’s collective global consciousness levels rise and fall in line with world events. It can be measured. Measurements show peaks when huge numbers of people are emotionally affected by the same event in the world (e.g. 9/11)
  • Similar work is done today by the Institute of Noetic Sciences.
  • In his book The field paradigm, Joachim Claes illustrates the masses of research done around the effects of Transcendental Meditation (TM). TM is one of the most researched meditation methods world-wide. Researchers and practitioners again and again proved the effects of large groups of advanced meditators. Their “meditative work“ led to a drop in crime rates, war activities, divorce rates etc. Scientists became so confident that they developed a concrete calculation formula predicting the number of advanced meditators and time required to achieve a specific targeted result. All of this was privately financed and could not be sustained because of lack of ongoing funding.
  • Individual people have picked up on this and organise mass meditations towards specific purposes; e.g. Dr Joe Dispenza, as mentioned above, Lynne McTaggart, a science journalist and many others.
  • On the private side, you also find documentaries on successful ways of healing serious illnesses such as cancer. They are sold outside the “public realm medicine“ over the Internet. TV stations and cinemas refused to broadcast such documentaries. The filmmakers learned that this is because they don’t want to lose their income from pharma ads. Such documentaries interview doctors and patients from around the world. You learn about effective approaches that help people heal.

Above examples reflect the impressive power of the human mind.

The list goes on.

The strength and power of this kind of medicine is that it helps cure chronic diseases. More importantly, it empowers people to learn how to take control over their own health and lives.

So what’s in it for politics?

Linking both powerful realms of medicine would dramatically reduce the costs of over-burdened public health systems.

Merging both realms provides a broader knowledge base for policy makers. This allows better informed decision-making, generally and also in times of crisis. No more one size fits all solutions.

People can access knowledge and learn practices that they might not have heard of before. It can inspire them to learn about all those fascinating sciences and allow them to take control and choose what rings best with them.

Just imagine how effective citizens’ deliberation processes would be when based on such a broad health spectrum. Imagine successful national citizens’ assemblies or conventions like the ones in Ireland or other countries! Decisions would find much broader support and acceptance.

Politicians would not have to bear the pressure of deciding on their own, when it comes to public health crises.

We’d create healthier and happier societies.

With their new plan for a common health policy, the EU has the choice: They can take another step towards solidifying an unfit and outdated system. Or take the opportunity and create a health approach that’s totally new in the political, governmental realm. Hence the EU could become a beacon for the world in this area – provided there was a political will.

Conclusions:

The world as we know it is governed with the intent to optimise parts of it: Fighting climate change, racism or a virus, reducing waste or poverty etc.

Eco-civilisation (the term Former EU Commissioner for Transport and Mobility, Violeta Bulc uses), regenerative development and similar new approaches have moved on from views that compartmentalise. They look at the whole and how everything is interconnected instead. They move towards improving the whole system.

In medicine we are tolerating two separate practices. The dominating public realm medicine on its own is limited. It looks at solving problems and cleaning up the past rather than moving into the future.

If people find themselves exclusively in the public realm medicine group, they are deprived of other options.

The private medicine realm looks at the whole picture. By creating coherence inside the body and with the outside world, solutions come by moving to the next level.

Access to all medical and health approaches would be a natural step for the world to create and for establishing an eco-civilisation.

What we are seeing in the COVID crisis is, that dissenting scientists are being defamed, their credibility is being undermined, or they are being ignored completely.

Sciences in all areas have always been contradictory. One of the reasons being that new sciences and new findings are very slow to be accepted by the scientific community and by society at large. Another reason lies in the hypotheses that the various scientists depart from.

We can develop the courage to allow all sciences to get expressed and publicly promoted, even when they seem contradictory. Nobody has the full truth. People have to be able to make choices.

Why not trust that people are mature enough to take their own decisions – even if they aren’t!

As both placebo and nocebo research show, people respond to trust you put in them, and also to the lack of it. Then they tend to adjust their lives accordingly.

Since most of “private realm medicine“ has been around for a quite while, some questions arise:

  • Why have both realms still not merged yet?
  • Why do policy makers not show any interest in private realm medicine?
  • If it is because of lack of knowledge, is there an interest to learn about this?
  • If the answer is no, what are the sound reasons for not wanting to learn more?
  • If the answer is yes, is there a general political will to promote both areas?
  • If so, how can we start to go about it?

If there is a political will, I am definitely available to help, network, connect, inform and give any support I can.

Finally let me share a story that Bob Proctor, an eminent authority in the world of personal development and goal achievement tells:

“There was a doctor in San Antonio, Texas, back around 1934, Dr. Thurmon Fleet, who was very involved in the healing arts. He felt we were approaching things the wrong way. He said: All we are doing is treating the body. We are treating the symptom, we are not treating the cause of the symptom. A person has a pain, we give them a pill or cut something out. I want you to imagine that you are driving a highway and a red light on the dash of your car suddenly flashes on. Can you even imagine yourself, driving to a service centre, borrowing a hammer and a screw-driver and knocking the red light out, saying: “Thanks very much,“ as you pass them back, and driving away? You wouldn’t even give that consideration! Why do we do it with our body? The red light is a signal that there is something wrong in the motor. While pain is a signal that there is something wrong in the body. And Dr. Thurmon Fleet seemed to understand that.“

Do we, too?
